Janome Memory Craft 15000 Testbericht (Update 2023)

Anmerkung des Herausgebers: This Janome Memory Craft 15000 Review was originally written in 2013, and has been revised and updated in 2023. The Janome Memory Craft 15000 has been discontinued. We have added more sewing machines from the Memory Craft line-up such as MC 6650, MC 8200QCP, Und MC 9850.

While visiting the Sunshine Sewing & Quilting in Margate, Florida, I was treated to a demonstration of the brand new Janome Memory Craft 15000 and I once again took the opportunity to review it. It isn’t often that a dealer falls in love with something in their inventory, but Sunshine’s owner, Faye Nichol, was literally beaming when she said “If I wasn’t a dealer, this is the machine I would buy!”

Janome Memory Craft 15000
Janome Memory Craft 15000

She said she made that decision within two minutes of having seen the Janome Memory Craft 15000 for the very first time and after reviewing this top of the line sewing and embroidery machine, I can certainly see why. For starters, this is the first time I have ever seen a Nähmaschine that comes with an iPad. Like the Janome Memory Craft 12000, the 15000 can be linked to a PC as well.

    Janome Memory Craft 15000- Overview

    Janome Horizon Memory Craft 15000

In all probability, there might be no other device that has as many features as Janome Memory Craft 15000. This high end workhorse has every feature that is possible to have in a sewing machine. To list some, it comes with 500 inbuilt utility and decorative stitches, 480 inbuilt embroidery designs, 13 one-step buttonholes, drop feed, full colour LCD touch sensitive screen, and possibly everything you can think of. MC 15000 is one of the priciest in the market but despite that, it is value for money.. The device works without a single lag. It is easy to use only for the experienced professional. Read our detailed review below to learn more about this device.

Janome MC 15000 has been discontinued. We recommend trying out other Memory Craft sewing machines that we have listed in this post.

    More from Janome Memory Craft

As I have mentioned earlier in this review, Janome Memory Craft 15000 is no longer in production. Here are some other sewing machines from the Janome Memory Craft line-up that I would recommend.

    Janome MC6650 Näh- und Quiltmaschine
    4.4
    $1.799,00

Working on the Janome Memory Craft 15000

Something that I must mention in this review is the fact that Janome Memory Craft 15000 has the largest display screen that Janome has ever manufactured in any of their devices, even till date.

When you flip the switch to the on position, the Janome Memory Craft 15000 chimes to signal that it’s on. It treads a little differently than other Janome sewing machines.

Embroidery design appears on the touch screen with measurement details
Embroidery design appears on the touch screen with measurement details

Nonetheless, the threading process and winding the bobbin are uncomplicated tasks that are easily and quickly accomplished.

However, there is one special safety feature tied to the threading process that you cannot override. The Janome Memory Craft 15000 must be locked in order to be threaded.

This is for your protection because the start/stop button is so close to the needle. The proximity of the start/stop button to the needle is a wonderful feature when sewing, but you don’t want to accidentally hit it while threading the needle.

Selecting one of the on board embroidery designs is as easy as scrolling through the options and using the touchpad and stylus to make a selection.

After the embroidery design is identified, it appears on the touch screen with measurement details, which hoop to use, thread color and timing information and is ready for sewing.

The finished product is identical to the onscreen image in perfect detail. The sensors are programmed to stop before the bobbin or upper thread runs out, eliminating the necessity for trying to find the place in your design where the thread ran out.

All that is necessary is for you to merely change the thread and then press the start/stop button to restart sewing.

In addition, you can be assured of perfect results each and every time you use the Janome Memory Craft 15000 by programming it for the specific brand and type of thread you are using.

The Janome Memory Craft 15000 not only has the most user friendly screen on the market, it is also capable of sewing embroidery designs with up to 200,000 stitches, compared to the 12000 which is limited to embroidery designs of only 100,000 stitches; and it’s so quiet that you can barely hear it when it’s sewing – even at top speed.

    Janome Memory Craft 15000- Summary

Anytime a sewing machine dealer feels as strongly about a machine in their inventory as Faye Nichol feels about the Janome Memory Craft 15000, you know there’s something very special about this particular machine.

What impressed me about this machine was the fact that an iPad is included as an accessory as well as a 32 GB flash drive and the PC capability that worked so well with its predecessor, the Memory Craft 12000.

You can also use your computer to create your decorative stitches and produce them on the Memory Craft 15000.

Most computerized sewing machines beep to signal when they are on, when the bobbin thread needs to be changed, when a presser foot needs to be changed or to call your attention to something.

The Janome Memory Craft 15000, however signals you with a series of chimes instead. It’s little touches like this that make this machine stand apart from all the rest.

No wonder Faye is so enthusiastic about it. If a new top of the line sewing and embroidery machine is in your future, you owe it to yourself to visit your local Janome dealer and ask for a demonstration.

    Zusammenfassung

The Janome Memory Craft 15000 is a high-end, computerized sewing machine that is perfect for experienced sewers. It has 1,500 built-in stitches, including a variety of straight stitches, zigzag stitches, and decorative stitches. It also has a number of advanced features, such as a 1-step buttonhole function, a needle threader, an automatic thread cutter, and a free arm.
The number of features on this machine is quite commendable and the output quality is wonderfully accurate and overall excellent. There is not much that is device is incapable of doing.

All in all, the Janome Memory Craft 15000 is a great sewing machine for experienced sewers who are looking for a machine with a wide variety of features and a great stitch quality. It is not the most affordable machine on the market, but it is still good for the price if you look at everything that it brings to the table.

    Singer 20U Testbericht – Update 2025

1. Is there really that big of difference in fabric capability between the 15000 and 12000! The review seems to indicate the 15000 will work with only half the fabrics the 12000 will. Not what I’d expect for a machine with a 50% higher price,

      1. I agree with you about the fabric limitation – definitely won’t be able to sew denim material and go over thick corners even for lighter weight material it seems. This is not good and I’ve just changed my mind and took this Janome off my wish list. For 12 thousand the machine should be able to handle all types of material. This would definitely limit my sewing ability and creativity.

        1. No so….the 15,000 will work on all fabrics. These are very strong, well engineered machines. Yes, they will sew through leather and faux leather, with the proper needle. I think there was some miscommunication there.

          1. MC 15000 motor performance handles all fabric/vinyl/suede choices, multiple layers. Capable of working with all materials under correct settings. It is intended for residential use and not a factory.

      1. Too early to provide a rating. Just purchased this machine in November but haven’t had a chance to use it yet. However, I did not receive a 32GB flash drive either. Is this a standard accessory or relevant to store where it is purchased?

    2. Does anyone know when the next 0% interest promotion will be coming out. I want one of these machines, bad…but can’t afford it unless 0% interest.

      Thanks so much!

    3. I love this machine. I was a little upset about the difference in fabric capability. I did however sew a tote bag out of a feed bag (dog/horse food) without any difficulties.

    4. I would love to have a manual for the Horizon Link Suite that comes with the machine. The general manual refers briefly but says that help is available on the program which is very general and of little use to the program. The machine does sew so beautifully and large hoops invaluable especially the magnetic ones for quilting.

    5. Excellent machine. Used to own other top of the line machine s previously, but nothing compares to 15000. Other brands might have more features, however you probably won’t use them because it will take you a day to figure it out. If you use same wt. thread on top and bottom, you’ll never have to mess with tension. Metalic thread, not a problem (I used bottom line thread in the bobbin), no need to use different needles, just lower the speed to minimum. Embroidery arm very convenient, you can keep it on all the time with extention table, you don’t even know it’s there. Embroidery very precise, if you need to take the hoop off during the project , Just reattach the hoop and it will continue like it was on the whole time.

    6. Could the material discrepancy be cleared up? This site shows the mc 12000 being capable of more materials than the newer mc 15000 (specifically fur and leather).

    7. If this machine could be rated higher I would. I traded my Viking in for it after a two hour demonstration and never looked back. Love the ease of use, love the small footprint embroidery arm that fits on the back where it is out of the way and always accessible with the touch of a button which works better for my left handedness. Quiet, fun to use, no drudgery in throat plate change outs. Love the training videos, I-Pad, 9mm stitches, accessories, walking feet that are reliable.

      1. Hello, Danielle.
Vielen Dank für Ihren Besuch bei Sewing Insight.
MSRPs are not listed because the Memory craft 15000 pricing is very flexible. Your local Janome dealer will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about pricing. They have lots of flexibility and are able to work with you to make sure you get the best deal possible.

    8. Fabulous machine, had no problem sewing thick or thin fabrics, glides through multiple layers of denim and other heavy materials with ease.
Bought this Janome15000 after big disappointment with Bernina830. What a difference, would never buy anything else!
Stitch quality is perfect, embroidery is fabulous, very user friendly and totally reliable!

    9. I recently purchased the Janome 15000. Did not come with an ipad. Will any ipad work? if so, what apps need to be downloaded. How does that work?
Is any laptop compatible with the janome 15000?

    10. Just purchased Janome Horizon 15000 in July at a AQS show and ran into a problem with the needle threader. I love the machine. Haven’t used it for embroidery yet, but have made a bunch of bags with thick material to go through and it was fine until I broke a needle, it was a blue tipped needle. I changed the needle and went to use needle threader and it won’t work. It goes up and down and appears to put thread through hole but the thread comes back out with the threader and never stays on the other side. My eyes went cross eyed trying to figure out what was happening. I even did a movie of the action, slowed up and zoomed in to see the action. Any idea of what’s wrong? No where on any website, YouTube or the instruction manuals, trouble shoot this one. I’m really upset with it having trouble when it’s only a few months old and soooo expensive. Any help in direction would be much appreciated.

      1. I’ve been having continuous problems with the needle threader as well. I have had the machine for a year. Threader will work for a month, then break. Take it in for repair (a month lost), works for about 12 threadings while working on a project, then quits again. I took the machine back to the dealer and said I quit, take it back! They gave me a new machine and it worked for a month and then broke again. Repeat the cycle 5 more times. More repairs/replacement of mechanism. Quit working again last month. Still trying to get my dealer to acknowledge that this machine is a total lemon. If someone has a solution, I’d love to hear it.

      2. Hi, my threader often doesn’t work but I’ve found that if I raise the needle just a tad it will then work. Play a little with the white wheel on the right hand side.

      3. My dealer told me to only use the organ needles, the problem is with the other ones they will not thread the needles. I figure with the lights I should not have a problem using other needles, I love this machine so far but big learning curve..Some of the needle threaders have been breaking which I have heard about but the dealer will fix that.

      4. There is a problem with the needle threader mechanism. I have had to return my machine 3 times to have the threader repaired. Last one was in Feb 2017 hopefully it will work now.
Also having a problem with the machine jamming – oh dear, I cant use it at the moment because it wont sew without jamming – back to the dealer again. Not impressed and getting frustrated by these problems with a not very old machine.

    11. Hi Everyone. I need your expert advise on this matter. I have the choice between the MC 15000 V1 (available immediately) or the V2 (2-3 months). What do you suggest? I am quite happily using my old machine so I don’t need to rush into the V1 if you think I should wait. I am in Saudi Arabia so have only seen the V1 machine at a quilting show in Australia in 2014. I have done a comparison between the two machines but still leaning towards the V2. Any suggestions will be extremely appreciated.

    13. I previously had a Janome 10000 but, replaced it with a 12000. I still haven’t used it yet( my sister moved into my sewing room for 1 1/2 years. I’ve been looking for a cd tutorial(like I had found for my older one). Do you know if there is anyone making such a thing anymore? I would REALLY be interested in buying one! I think it would be so much easier than trying to learn from random u tube videos! I’d appreciate your advice. tHank you.

    14. Good morning! Lost my Janome Marie Osmond in our home from Hurricane Sandy and my kangaroo sewing table. Never got to set up the table only used the machine twice.i would like a new machine it is between a Janome 15000 or Elna 920. Reading some of the comments on the needle on the janome I wondered if there are other issues. 0 financing for 60 months make either one affordable. Just an average table now. Thank you.

    15. I have a Janome MC11000 and I am about ready to throw it out the window!!
It sews great, embroiders great (when it works),, I am having trouble with the bobbin case popping up and needle going through it and either breaks or bends I have taken to local dealer and had it serviced and it will work fine for a while then in the middle of a design, bam thread jam and it starts all over. I am thinking of changing to another brand but not sure which way to go. I do a lot of embroidery and would like to get a larger hoop, mine is 8 x8, would like maybe 9 x 12. Any suggestions?

      1. I am with you but I did trade it on the MC 15000, wow am I impressed and it hasn’t been a week yet. My 1100 was giving me grief in many ways and I was fed up to the point I didn’t enjoy sewing with it. If you can go the extra $$ it will reward you but hurry the special ends soon. Good luck.

    16. I’m looking at upgrading my 12000 to the 15000. I’ve been having problems lately with it stopping and message pops up stating “be sure you have the right pressure foot on”. Which I do. But the longer I sew the more it pops up.

My dealer wants to sell a training machine for 3k. Is this a good deal?

He dobt offer the 0% financing, but i found a credit card that does 0% for 21 months….better then nothing. Does Janome offer the IPAD, and the 32gb flash drive or is that an offer from the dealer? What is the V1, 2 or 3? Any suggestions on additional accessories to get?
      Hope to hear from someone
      Danke

    17. How often does anybody use the wifi and flashdrive? Is it worth the extra money or is it one of those things you have but rarely use. I am a textile artist and much of my work is multy media with a lot of hand embroidery

      1. I used the wifi ALL the time until my ipad died and I went to a Win10 laptop. When I transferred the Horizon Suite software to my laptop and upgraded it to ver 1.20 from the website, it would not transfer designs anymore. I tried using the included USB cable and NO luck either. Both laptop and Janome did see each other cause the names showed up on both for each other. Only way I could get designs to my machine was USB thumb drive. The threader also stopped working on mine at about a year and a month after I bought it. I was really bummed out cause that was a feature that helped me decide on this machine and it is an expensive machine to have these kinds of problems IMO.

I stopped in my local sewing center a week ago looking for a cabinet and mentioned my issues. They told me there is actually an upgrade that will fix these issues. This is the same system that is on the newest Quilt Maker MC15000 version, but it is compatible for the ver 1 and 2 of the Horizon MC15000, I am told. Supposedly, the embroidery foot and ankle that came with these machines is a little off and that causes the threader not to work or to work sporadically. They also said that the firmware upgrade to ver 3 will fix the PC wifi issues I am having. I figured it was probably something to do with Win10 since the software worked fine for me in all aspects on Win7.

The upgrade cost me $149. I later read on a janome blog (janomelife.wordpress.com/category/janome-horizon-mc15000-quilt-maker/) that the upgrade to the machine with a new ankle and embroidery foot should be FREE.

I told my dealer I didn’t quilt, but they gave me the impression I needed to purchase the quilting kit in order to get this upgrade. So beware of this. The kit contains another plate and 5 other feet for quilting and other items, so if you do quilt, you may want to buy it. 😉

      2. I have just purchased my machine and I will use it especially with the Acudesigns, not something I thought I would be interested in but after doing some research I must make use if it. so yes if you can do it.

    18. I read all the comments re: the needle threader. For what it is worth, I took my machine back to the dealer several times and finally was told there was a “software” problem and sure enough when the “software was replaced, the needle threader works every time now. This was in Canada, so not sure if it is the same in the US. Talk to your dealer. Judi Haase

    19. I’m having problems with my bobbin holder being thrown out and needle damaging the bobbin holder, needing to be replaced, at $A45 each, very expensive. Back to be repaired again.
