Nähmaschine Rezensionen

Whether you are looking for a review of a particular sewing machine, or just shopping around and want to get the opinion of someone like me who has experience working on many different sewing machines, Sewing Insight is for you. Sewing Insight is a source of information for ‘everything sewing’. That includes reviews of every sewing machine and serger we can get our hands on. The sewing machine reviews on this site are based on my own personal experiences with each one of the machines reviewed. we do no claim to be anything other than a person who has been sewing for many, many years.

Reviewing a sewing machine

To say the very least our team knows their way around sewing machines. We love sewing and we love sharing information about the machines we are privileged to review. We found many of the sewing machines and sergers reviewed on this site in shops near Vernelle’s home in South Florida. The owners of these shops pay nothing for these reviews and have no influence on how the reviews are presented. If we come across a sewing machine that we think is a waste of time and money, or one that is a great deal, we will say so. In reading reviews of brand new sewing machines, you should be aware that just about every machine operates at its maximum level of performance—its all-time best—when it is brand spanking new.

Maintaining a sewing machine well makes even the old Singer 221 shine…

Der true value of any sewing machine or serger is seldom realized until it has been in use for a few years. Any sewing machine’s performance over time depends largely on how well it is maintained, and the owner must take sole responsibility for that. If you purchase a sewing machine or serger and follow all of the manufacturer’s suggestions regarding care and maintenance, you have a right to expect that machine to serve you well for many, many years.
However, just like automobiles, some sewing machine models turn out to be lemons after a while. None of us – not even the dealers – have any advance knowledge about which machines will turn into duds over time and which models will last for decades.
For example, Vernelle bought a sewing machine in the late 1980s that worked like a dream for the first two or three years. She kept it covered, cleaned the race hook and feed dogs after every use, and made sure there was no dust or dirt anywhere inside or out. However, when it was about five years old, it started having some rather serious problems. Eventually, she sold it at a yard sale for $5.
On the other hand, a sewing machine she got about 20 years ago still holds a place of honor in my sewing room. In fact, it is still her favorite.

Aside from the brand new sewing machines and sergers we review, some of the machines reviewed on this site are in private collections… our own and the private collections of some of my sewing buddies. In these reviews, we are able to share not only our own opinion, but the opinions of the owners, as well as a testament as to how the machines stand up to the test of time. 1. You are a very interesting lady, Vernelle. I’m so happy to have come in contact with you. I’ve been perusing your sight and have found many so interseting things that my eyes hurt and i have to get off the computer now. I’ll be back.

    1. Diana –

I think we have a mutual admiration society going here. I love your blog as well. Perhaps we should look at the possibility of partnering or collaborating somehow. Maybe occasional guest posts? What say you?

  2. Hi Vernelle.

I agree that we have a lot in common. I love your suggestion and would be happy to collaborate. I’m leaving for a visit to my grand babies tomorrow and will be out of the loop until May 1st. After that we should talk!

  3. Vernelle, so glad I found your site, I’m from Texas and am thinking of purchasing the Janome MB4. The review on your site was so helpful.

Also can you use the Bernina v6 software with this machine? Any suggestions would be helpful. I will definitely be checking out your site again.

Where in Florida r you – we go to Destin every summer. Tkx Jean

  4. Hello, Jean –

I’m not certain if the MB4 software is compatible with the Bernina v6. I suggest you refer that particular question to your local Janome dealer.

I am in south Florida, about 10 hours’ drive from Destin.

  5. Vernelle,
Hello from Pennsylvania! I just happened upon your site while searching for embroidery cards for my Husqvarna Rose (which I have not used in several years but am resurrecting). The review of your friend’s Rose was helpful even to someone who already owns that machine. I was very impressed with how well-written your review was…and now I know why; you are a writer. Happy for you that you are able to combine things you are passionate about on this site. Thanks for the help you provide fellow sewing enthusiasts.

  6. I, too, love your reviews! They are thorough, thoughtful and you offer good, practical information and advice. Love your bio! I will have to share your website with others! Stacie

  7. I just purchased a used Janome QS2250 and came across your website. Thank you for all the wonderful information! I expect I’ll be on your site learning all I can from you!

  8. Great site, very helpful information on some sewing machine brands I haven’t sewn on. Love my Bernina but am looking for a starter machine for my adult daughter. Always feel a kindred spirit with other seamstresses!
