This quilting, patchwork and appliqué machine puts state of the art functionality at your fingertips at an incredibly affordable cost.
Janome Memory Craft 6600- Overview
The Memory Craft 6600 from Janome is jam-packed with cutting-edge quilting capabilities. The Accu-Feed system is one of the best. This is a unique mechanism that carries the job through from top to bottom and is comparable to a walking foot. It works especially well with numerous layers, but it also performs admirably with slick and heavy materials. Quilters will like the extra-high presser foot lift in conjunction to the Accu-Feed technology since it makes it incredibly easy to enter and remove thick work. The Janome 6600 sewing machine has a maximum stitch speed of 1000 per minute.
This model has been discontinued. We recommend that you try the other Memory Craft sewing machines that we have listed in this post.
Two things immediately stood out when we first saw the Janome Memory Craft 6600 that I want to start reviewing with. First of all, there is a wonderful reference guide that not only displays all of the 99 stitch options, the reverse side shows the threading guide in a detailed graphic.
When mounted to the back of the machine, the guide stands just above the machine head, making it as easy as possible to look simply glance up for quick access.
The other thing that jumps out is the fact that there is no free arm. While the presence of a free arm is especially desirable for small things like pant cuffs, sleeve hems, children’s clothes and other very small sewing tasks, but when it comes to working on quilting and patchwork projects, the free arm really isn’t necessary. Since the Memory Craft 6600 is built for quilting, patchwork and appliqué work, a free arm is not a requirement. The easy to understand threading guide and reference guides make this machine an excellent option for beginners.
However, its many other features and accessories mean that the Janome MC 6600 is not just for the person who is just starting to get involved with machine quilting, but for the intermediate and expert machine quilter as well.

Working on the Janome Memory Craft 6600
In our opinion, the highly detailed on board threading reference guide is only necessary for the person who is almost totally inexperienced at threading a machine à coudre. This would actually make a great point for a novice if they were reviewing the Janome Memory Craft 6600, even though it primarily is an industrial device that you will expect to be tricky for freshers.
The on board thread guides make threading so simple, we believe they are all that are necessary for a sewer at any level to thread the machine properly on the very first attempt.
Winding and loading the drop in bobbin is just as uncomplicated, and the separate bobbin winding motor makes it possible for users to wind the bobbin while sewing.
This is one of the greatest time-savers any home sewer could ask for, especially when working on very large projects.
It is always an advantage when you are able to sew and wind a cache of bobbins simultaneously.
We were really impressed with the adjustable contrast dial on the Janome MC 6600.
When working in a brightly lit area or working with lots of natural sunlight, the user is able to dim the backlit LCD screen and brighten it as the amount of natural light diminishes.
As with practically all other reviews, we sampled several different stitch options. The stitches available on the Memory Craft 6600 are grouped together … utility… pictograph… decorative.
Selecting a specific stitch was as simple is selecting the mode and then dialing in the stitch number on the numerical touchpad.
Once the stitch is identified, the display in the LCD screen tells you which presser foot to use and helps guide you through any required adjustments and settings to execute the perfect stitch.
In addition to the reference guide, the on board thread cutter, drop feed button, auto lock, needle up/down button, knee lift and functional controls like the dual feed adjuster, stitch balance adjusting screw, speed control slider, stitch elongation, length and width controls are all conveniently located, and easy to access.
They all work together to ensure that sewing on the Janome Memory Craft 6600 is not only enjoyable, but comfortable as well.
No doubt, after working on this machine for a significant length of time, the user could conceivably engage any one of these functions without even looking away from their work.

The Janome Memory Craft 6600 is an exceptional workhorse. This is one of the most dependable sewing, quilting, patchwork and appliqué machines we have had the pleasure of reviewing.
Not only is it capable of working with thick layers of fabric, natural fabrics such as cotton, silk and wool, you can also work with those heavy fabrics on this one. So get out your denim, twill and upholstery fabric.
Regardless of whether you are working with the most delicate of silk or the heaviest twill, your results will be the same.
The Memory Craft 6600 gets the job done with equal efficiency and ease. we are particularly impressed by the fact that this one comes with built in spindles to accommodate cone thread, not standard spools of thread.
The ease with which this machine is threaded and operated makes it an ideal option for the person who is learning the art of machine quilting.
The extension table, large workspace, dual LED lights, visual presser foot pressure gage and adjustable contrast LCD screen not only make it a joy to work with, it is one of the most ergonomically designed sewing machines of its type.

Although it has a carrying handle, the Janome MC 6600 is no lightweight. Unless you are accustomed to lifting 30-40 pound weights on a regular basis, do not plan on moving this one around a lot.
A machine as sturdy as this one is ideal for a permanent location in a cabinet. After all, this is not one of those machines that you will be taking on vacation or to sewing class.

love my machine. it was a mothers day gift.
There is a clunking noise when the stitching starts. Is there a reason for this? Another bit of information not relayed was the fact that the needle has to be in the down position in on order to raise the presser foot. Nowhere was this indicated. A service call didn’t even reveal this necessity. Is there a teaching manual that includes all the “secrets” for smooth operation? Thank you in advance for any information.
My machine also makes a horrible sound when I start sewing. Unfortunately I’m nowhere near the dealer where I purchased the machine. The stitch quality isn’t affected and I don’t have the problem with the presser foot. However I’m worried about the awful loud grating sound the machine makes when I put the needle down to sew.

Take your machine in for servicing at once. That noise you’re hearing is a warning that something is wrong. Your Memory Craft may work now, but without the attention of a trained service professional, it may not be working for long. The cost of the repair will be significantly more than the cost of servicing, so don’t delay.
I took the machine to a lic. tech.
Paid the $100+ for the service call it still does the same thing. Called the tech back and was told it was in fine order. (Not so but what else could I do) Embroidery stitches do not work well on a quilted item either. There doesn’t seem to be any help in print Am thinking of getting another brand of comparable size. Not happy with this machine, so am putting it away till it decides to behave.
Are you or have you ever used metal bobbins in it. I have the Janome 6500p. Have had it for over 10 years and the only thing that has been done is the the
Bobbin housing has been replaced because it had a knick in it from using a metal bobbin. If housing is plastic you have to use plastic bobbins. 6500 and 6600 are basically the same machine. Sounds like something is wrong with the bobbin case
I’ve had my Janome 6600 for a year and I am heading into my 12th quilt! It has done pretty good. One thing I wanted to say is it needs to be cleaned out often, I have a tiny shop vac that works great. While you have the bobbin holder out there is a small hole under it for a drop of oil.

The machine I reviewed made no ‘clunking’ noise. In fact, it was rather smooth and quiet. Nor was it necessary to have the needle in the down position to raise the presser foot. I suspect your machine needs to be thoroughly checked out by a certified Janome service professional. I suggest you the nearest authorized Janome dealer in order to resolve the problem.

I am looking at purchasing a second hand Janome MC6600 which the owner says was only ever used once. I wondered if there is some way of knowing how many stitches the machine has done as this will give me a sense of how often it was used? Also it doesn’t come with all the standard accessories you would expect to find when you buy it new. However, if the machine checks out ok then I can always buy them separately!.
Would really appreciate any help regarding locating the stitch count on the machine somewhere!

Thank you for visiting Sewing Insight. Your question is a very valid one. Unfortunately, you are way ahead of the times. Unlike cars, where you can simply check the odometer, there is no way to gage how frequently or how long a sewing machine has actually been used. I would say that a good tell-tell sign that it may have been used more than once is the fact that all of the accessories are not available. However, that could be a case of not putting the machine away properly or of having used the accessories with a different machine.
My suggestion is that you thoroughly check the machine’s operation. Is it clean? Does it operate properly? Does it make excessive noise? Does it vibrate too much when you operate it?
If you are satisfied with the answers to all the above questions, then you may very well have come upon a great machine. If the price is right, I say go for it. Like you said, you can purchase the accessories later.

Thanks for your comment Vernelle. I have contacted Janome head office in Australia for more information on this. Some of the newer machines do have the technology to record stitch count and hours of use but not sure yet whether the Janome MC6600 did or not. I will be sure to post again once I hear back.
You mension that it cant sew throught Leather/suede, Fur, Reptile skin,
Canvas/Twill, Plastic/Rubber!! If you watch the video on this page you can see it sewing through plastic, leather, cardbord, wood and even a pepsi can. Its really strong machine. Its a must watch video.
My janome 6600 memory craft machine keeps blowing its fuse. I purchased it used, its been in for replace fuse three times, wondering what might be causing this to happen???

It seems to me that if your MC 6600 is constantly blowing a fuse, something might be awry with the mother board or the circuitry. Have you had it cleaned and serviced since purchasing it? The issue might be resolved after a thorough going over.

I have a MC6600. I am trying to applique using a “stitch, bite, stitch” pattern but can’t seem to find that as a stitch option. I can only find a “stitch, stitch,stitch,bite” pattern. This is too “heavy”. Does anyone know if the machine can do the pattern I need?
I have the DC6600. I wanted it for all the stitches. The problem I am having is that every time I try to use a decorative stitch, the thread will start shredding and I have to stop and re-thread. I have tried different theads (King Tut, Sulky, Guitterman and Clark and Coats. It does it with all of them. I tried using the same threads on my other Janome and have no problem. I have taken it in for this problem and it is still doing it. Is their something they are missing to find this problem?
Same question as Victoria, thread keeps shredding and constantly have to rethread, not impressed. Please advise
Can you use any other stitch other than a straight stitch with the accused system. For example can you use a zig zag stitch? Thank you.

It’s been quite a while since I reviewed this machine but I do not see why you would not be able to sew a zigzag stitch when working in the accusew mode. If you want to be absolutely certain before attempting this, I suggest you call our local Janome dealer for verification.
Was just given a used one about 3 or 4 yes old. It won’t turn on or even light up. Any suggestions?

I have this machine. Have had it several years and both of the spool spindles have snapped off. Call the dealer where I purchased it and was told it would take 6 weeks before that could fix it. Can I do this myself? If so…. how

My husband bought me a Janome MC6600 about 5 years ago for sewing and quilting, etc. Up until I retired last year, I have only been doing sewing and hemming with it. I took 2 quilting classes this spring to update me on quilting so I am looking for a good basting stitch on my Janome. I absolutely dislike the instruction manual that came with this machine. It definitely leaves a lot to be desired as far as manual organization goes. I tried Mode 1 and moving the stitch length up from 2.2 to 2.6 but I do not want to have to keep doing this. My husband put my machine in my sewing cabinet so it is hard for me to get to the reset button on the machine. I am wondering if there is a larger basting stitch on Mode 1 or 2 that I use on a regular basis.

Love my Janine 6600 but currently having problems with the thread catching something in the lower part and pulling the bobbin case up and out of position. The top thread gets caught down there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Debbie I know your post is a little old. I have the same problem I have spent about £200 over the last 3/4 months had 3 new bobbin cases and every time I put a refilled bobbin in after a few yards it goes clunk and kicks the bobbin up I have been to local Janome dealer 3/4 times and the machine has been back to Janome in Stockport twice it was sent back saying user error. I have had the machine for about 5 years or more I think I know how to use it by now!! Did you get yours sorted out?
I love my 6600 memory craft. Usually use Gutterman thread. Only used a few of the decorative stitches but I appliqué a lot. My only problem is when I use the automatic thread cutter, sometimes the machine becomes unthreaded. I have to rethread. Not sure if it’s a tension problem or what. Afraid to touch too many things. Other than that, it’s all good!
I have had nothing go right with my Janome 6600P. The only good thing it is quiet. The tension knob untensions itself whilst sewing. Been in twice for repair and lasts a few weeks and back to the same thing. The arm you thread before the tension knob,,, the thread keeps coming off. Manufacturer and repair tech suggested threading it the other way so it would not slip off. Sewing foot falls off as the screw that holds them on, vibrates loose, even when it has been tightened by a screwdriver. Sometimes the needle will decide not to come all the way out of the material. I was accused of perhaps I had hit the down button on the needle setting. Overall if I did not have these issues. I am sure it would be a good machine. Do love the way the bobbin is set up for winding. The warranty is now off and it is costing me money for repairs that are not getting repaired and I have to travel over an hour to an authorized Janome dealer.

In May of 2016 I asked for help for my Janome 1600 and trying to get the LCD screen to show its program. It lights up. Now I have the problem again. Please!
I have used my Janome MC 6600 successfully to “momogram” labels for quilts. However, it won’t “monogram” numbers for the date. Should I assume something needs servicing (however it did just get a full service) or is there a trick. I don’t see this addressed in the manual.

I have a MC660P and I have had constant trouble with it, as Marie (5 May 17) I have just collected my machine after service and replacement bobbin case and the plastic washer type bit below it total £109. Brought it home on Thursday went to use it today and may under pressure to finish 124m of bunting for my daughter’s wedding and after using it for about 1/2 hour it is jamming again the up down button won’t work, the stitch is dreadful, the know for the tension on the top won’t move and the thread in the bottom keeps jamming causing the fabric to be pulled down. The cutter often does not cut the bobbin thread, only the top one. All the problems I had before. Any suggestions? Thank you.
