Examen du Singer 4620C (mise à jour 2023)
Note de l'éditeur : This Singer 4620C review was originally written in 2012, and has been revised and updated in 2023. We have added similar alternatives such as Elnita EM16, SINGER fait la coupe, et JanomeHD1000.
Recently, we dropped by one of our favorite sewing machine sales and repair shops just to see what was new. They had a Singer 4620C on display in the very front of the shop.
It turns out that this electronic machine à coudre had been dropped off for consignment sale by a woman who is facing physical challenges and is no longer able to sew. Although the accessories were not available, it appeared to be in excellent condition.
Singer 4620C Overview
The Singer 4620C sewing machine offers a range of useful features for both beginners and experienced sewers. It has 20 built-in stitches, including basic, decorative, and stretch stitches, allowing for a variety of sewing projects. The machine is also equipped with an automatic needle threader, making it easier and faster to thread the needle.
The Singer 4620C also includes an adjustable stitch length and width, giving the user more control over the finished product. The machine has a drop-in bobbin system, making it easy to insert and remove the bobbin. It also has a built-in free arm, making it easier to sew cuffs, sleeves, and other small projects. The machine also includes a reverse stitch function, allowing the user to reinforce stitches or sew in reverse. Overall, the Singer 4620C is a versatile and reliable sewing machine, suitable for a range of sewing projects.
Just one look at this electronic sewing machine and you instantly know that this is an ideal machine for the beginner, or for someone who has been sewing for many years, but prefers to have an uncomplicated, basic sewing machine.

The 4620C has just the very basic utility stitches, nothing really fancy or elaborate.
Its clearly marked threading guide, stitch selector, free arm, reverse stitch button, stitch length dial, stitch width slider and drop in bobbin are right easily identified even at a distance.

What are the features on Singer 4620C?
In addition to the features that are clearly obvious when you first look at the Singer 4620C, this basic electronic sewing machine is equipped with:

Working on the Singer 4620C
Sewing on the Singer 4620C was as easy and uncomplicated as the machine appeared it would be… just as we had expected.
Threading the Singer 4620C is as uncomplicated as possible. The on board threading guide makes the entire process quite simple. We were able to thread the sewing machine without the slightest bit of hesitation.
Winding the bobbin was just as easy. Inserting it in the front drop in bobbin case is as simple as just dropping it into place.

When it comes to actually sewing on the Singer 4620C, the stitch quality and stitch selection process is as uncomplicated as it was to thread it.

The stitch selector, needle and stitch width sliders are as simple to use as possible.
The stitch length dial is equally uncomplicated with graphics of stitch styles patterns and details clearly stamped on the control panel.

The large reverse button is perfectly situated in the center of the stitch length dial.
There is even a thread cutter on the back of the needle bar to make finishing seams as easy as everything else associated with the Singer 4620C.

For this review, we sampled several stitch options… straight, zigzag, and free hand.
Without exception, the stitch quality and the ease of changing from one stitch option to another were so easy, we feel comfortable in recommending this machine for use by children providing they are supervised by an adult… at least until they learn the basic intricacies of operating a sewing machine.
The free arm is easy to access by just sliding the work surface off.
It goes back into place just as easily, making it possible to sew large and small tasks without taking a lot of time to re-set the machine.
It is entirely possible to sew the seams leg seams in a pair of pants and hem them with just the simple act of removing the work surface and sliding it back into place in a matter of mere seconds.
The Singer 4620C is a little slower than most sewing machines, but no so slow that the speed is a major distraction.
While many of today’s sewing machines are capable of sewing 1,000 stitches or more per minute, the average speed of the Singer 4620C is about 800.

This is not a big drawback. In fact, the slower speed is a big plus for the beginner, especially for younger sewers who may be challenged by a high speed sewing machine.

Singer 4620C Summary
Like many Singer electronic sewing machines, the 4620C is an ideal choice for the beginning home sewer. This particular model is great for young people.Children as young as 10 or 12 could learn to use this machine with very little problem at all.

Before being allowed to use the Singer 4620C unsupervised, a child this young should be closely monitored until they have mastered the knowledge of basic sewing machine operation and are comfortable sewing without intervention or guidance from the instructor.
While this is an excellent sewing machine for children, older people who are learning to sew will be at ease with the Singer 4620C as well. The easy to understand on board guides and functions are a major plus when learning to sew.
The Singer 4620 is also a great choice for the home sewer who is very comfortable with basic sewing machine operation, but prefers to have a basic machine rather than one of the more elaborate sewing machines with a lot of extras.
Many people go out of their way to acquire sewing machines that can do just about everything and have hundreds of utility and decorative stitch options.
Others prefer to have a simple, uncomplicated sewing machine. Machines like the Singer 4620C are ideal for basic clothing construction, sewing home décor accents, alterations and mending.
We recommend the Singer 4620C for anyone who does not sew more than a few times a year, or for those people who use their sewing machines primarily for mending or alterations.
With the popularity of programs like Project Runway and Mad Fashion, interest in home sewing is on the incline.
When you take the topsy turvy economy and yo-yoing unemployment statistics into account, there is even more reason for the interest in making one’s own clothes and home décor accents.
These circumstances definitely have an impact on the rise in sewing machine sales, but not everyone who purchases a sewing machine will stick to it.
With a price tag of less than $100, the Singer 4620C is an ideal machine for the beginner – especially the younger person who may not yet be quite certain as to whether or not they will stick with sewing or if sewing is just a passing fancy.

I followed the link and it said 404 Not Found. I got a 5825C at a Yard Sale. I’m having trouble getting the Bobbin put in right. Any Help please…. This is my first Singer. …..Robin
Im bought a used 4620C last spring at a Estate sale and I have the book with it. My issue is that when the thread/needle grabs the bobbin-thread it seems to loop around the bobbin area and make a huge mess. Im using the bobbin that came with it and thought maybe it is the wrong size and wanted to get some new ones, but I don’t see a size anywhere. is it a 66 or 15 or something else? Help please?
Joy –
Thank you for visiting Sewing Insight. My research indicates that the Singer 4620 requires a Class 66 bobbin. If this does not solve your problem, I suggest you take your machine to a certified sewing machine repair professional in your area.
Bonne couture.
Thank you. I’ll try that one, as I’m not sure what’s in it. If not I’ll try and find a repair place. Thank you, Happy New Year.
Could you please tell me where I can get a new bobbin holder for my 4620C? I broke mine trying to adjust the tension. Thank you
