After reading about Brother’s new DreamWeaver and Dream Maker series, I couldn’t wait to review at least one machine in this new top of the line series, which turned out to be the Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000.
The Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000 is a sewing and quilting machine; the DreamMaker is a sewing and embroidery machine; and the DreamWeaver XE is a machine that does it all. It sews, embroiders and quilts.
Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000 Overview
The Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000 is a high-end sewing and quilting machine that is designed for both home sewers and professionals. It boasts a wide range of advanced features that make it an excellent investment for those looking to take their sewing to the next level.
One of the key features of the Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000 is its large workspace. It has a spacious 11.25-inch throat space and a 5-inch height, making it ideal for quilting and other large projects. It also has an automatic needle threading system, which saves time and effort when threading the machine.
Another standout feature of the Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000 is its precision stitching. It has a laser guide that ensures accurate and consistent stitching. It also has a pivot function that allows for easy pivoting of the fabric, making it perfect for sewing curves and corners.
The Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000 is also designed for ease of use. It has a large LCD screen that allows for easy navigation through its many functions. It also has a range of built-in stitches and embroidery designs that can be accessed with the touch of a button. Additionally, it has a range of advanced features such as a variable speed control, automatic thread cutting, and a knee lifter, making it an efficient and user-friendly machine.
When you first see the Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000, the first thing you notice is the large, colorful, brightly lit LCD screen. Next will probably be the easy to locate function buttons and the extra workspace.

Even without a ruler or tape measure, it is obvious that this machine has a workspace that is significantly larger than just about any other Brother machine à coudre sur le marché.

Working on the Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000
The bobbin winding and threading mechanisms are located beneath the lid on top of the DreamWeaver VQ 3000.
Winding the bobbin and threading the machine are very easy thanks to the easy to follow diagrams that guide you through the entire process.

Unlike many home sewing machines, it is actually possible to wind extra bobbins while sewing on the DreamWeaver VQ 3000.
The bright LED lighting, conveniently located function buttons, see-through bobbin cover and seam guides etched onto the needle plate make sewing on the Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000 as user friendly as possible.
When it comes to selecting one of the many stitch decorative or utility stitch options, all the user needs to do is touch the icon for utility, decorative or alphanumeric fonts.
Once there, use the stylus or your fingertip to touch the desired stitch then adjust your stitch length and width by using the icons at the bottom of the touchpad.

You probably couldn’t ask for a machine with so many choices that makes stitch selection any simpler than that. I was very pleased with the quality of the stitches produced by the DreamWeaver VQ 3000. The stitches are uniform, well defined and tight.

Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000 Summary
After reviewing several Machines à coudre Brother that were unimpressive, to say the least, I must admit that I was rather impressed by the DreamWeaver VQ 3000.
When you consider all that it offers, this new, top of the line machine is definitely a good deal. Since it is brand new on the market, however, I cannot, vouch for how great it will be after several years of heavy use in a busy sewing room.

The superior stitch quality and ease of operation make the Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000 an ideal choice for the intermediate or advanced home sewer who wants to increase their options for machine quilting.
The Brother DreamWeaver VQ 3000 is definitely a user friendly sewing and quilting machine; so user friendly, in fact, that a beginner would be comfortable working on this one.

I like the bright lighting and cannot remember seeing a machine with so many stitch options that makes stitch selection so easy. I hesitate to recommend a machine this expensive for a beginner.
As user friendly as it is, there is still the possibility that once they learn how to sew, someone who has never used a sewing machine before might not use it enough to get their money’s worth.
On the other hand, however, a person who has been sewing for several years would be an ideal customer for this one. An experienced home sewer would really appreciate the great features and options available on the DreamWeaver.
My only hesitation is the fact that the long term reliability of Brother lower end sewing machines has been questionable. Right out of the box, the DreamWeaver is definitely superior to low end Brother sewing machines.
Since it is a new release, I has no way of knowing if its superior quality workmanship will stand the test of time. In other words, when it comes to investing in this machine, I can only say ‘buyer, be aware’.
Given the quality that this machine has from the get to, there is every possibility that it will last for many years.
I suggest you go to your local authorized Brother sewing machine dealer and ask for a demonstration. While you’re there, ask the very tough questions. If the answers are to your satisfaction, go ahead and purchase the DreamWeaver.

Looking to purchase this at sew and quilt show for $3899 new. Is this an average price?
I love the my Dreamweaver vq3000. I’ve made several quilts with it and have used the free motion feature with it as well. I’ve used it to make a dress for a wedding and veils for the bride.
I have mine on a large folding table. To level it with my machine, I bought a door insulation panel (3/4 inch) which I broke (use a box cutter) to surround the machine with the quilting extension table in place. Lastly, I placed a vinyl on top of the insulation and taped the vinyl to the bottom and voila, you have a quilting table and have saved yourself 2k-4k in the process.
The sale price you were quoted is very good for this machine. Hope you get it and enjoy.
This machine does sew canvas/twill/suede etc.. You just have to use the walking foot that comes with the machine. That walking foot is great for stitch in the ditch while quilting as well.
I bought my at a show for $2999 one and half years ago.
Since the manufacturers suggested retail price for the Brother Dreamweaver is $4999, I would say GO FOR IT… and enjoy!
Bonne couture.
I am not sure why you say not recommended for heavy fabrics, this thing can plow through 10 layers of denim and not even bat an eyelash, the muvit foot has its own motor and it meant to handle heavier and even more delicate fabrics. I have had the combo machine for a year and a half and can say it is worth it for that foot alone
I agree with Shavon. I am not sure why you say it isn’t recommended for heavy fabrics, my DreamWeaver VQ3000 sews through anything from heavy canvas to layers of batting and fabric with ease. Using the J foot no less!
I was very impressed with your reviews on here until you stated that this machine does not sew heavy fabrics….
You also don’t mention the MuVit foot. It comes with this machine, and the Laser feature is awesome! I think you need to review this machine again.
Hello, Angie –
Merci d'avoir visité Sewing Insight.
I hesitate to recommend most sewing heavy or very thick fabrics on computerized multi-purpose sewing/embroidery machines because I have not yet been convinced that they can handle very thick or heavy fabrics over an extended period of time.
No doubt, they can take very thick or heavy fabrics occasionally, but in my opinion, the jury is still out as to whether or not you can work with heavy weight fabrics more than 25-40% of the time it is in use.
Bonne couture.
I agree, this machine hates multi-layers of toweling and trying to stitch bag handles to bags with a total of 6 layers of fabric and 3 of wadding and it just doesn’t want to know. Skips stitches and labours quite badly.
Best purchase I have made on a sewing machine and I have owned several. The big selling point to me is ease of operation and the best lightening all machines need to be equipped with lights so you can see what you are sewing there is no need to add a light to this machine. I don’t regret this purchase if you can afford it I highly recommend it
I am thinking of getting rid of my Janome 7700, which I don’t like much. I already own a Brother Innovis 1500 that I have set up for embroidery 99 per cent of the time. I did try it for regular sewing a few times and although it has many good features, one thing drives me crazy. The default stitch length is, as I recall, 2.5, which I think is too big. The next setting down is 2.0, which I think is too small! There’s nothing in between. I usually like to use 2.2 on the Horizon or older Bernina I have. Is this still true on the Dreamweaver? it would be a dealbreaker.
I have had this machine for three years and quilted several quilts without any difficulty! I’ve made piping, pillows out of upholstery fabric, and sewn zippers in denim without a problem. I’ve also made two prom dresses and tricot night gowns. I think this machine is GREAT!
My dealer introduced me to the Dream Weaver Innov-is VQ3000 because there is more height between the plate and needle insertion shaft. It also threads itself.
I presently own a Janome Skyline S5 which I like. The only con to my Janome is the short distance between plate and needle insertion point when changing needles. I also find it difficult to thread when I reach the very end of the procedure. There’s not much room for my chunky fingers and a small loop of thread. A hand tremor also contributes to my clumsiness.
I’d like to hear from sewists who might be experiencing similar problems.
I know this is an older post but I’m looking for a new machine to buy for my 70th B’day coming up (YIKES!!). I’m a Brother/Babylock lover from way back. I’ve had a Janome 6600 a while back and could not bond with that machine so I sold it. I’m strictly a quilter and a large harp is wonderful. I currently sew with a Brother PQ1500S. I love that machine and wouldn’t get rid of it no how. I’d love to have the DreamWeaver but I’m having trouble with sticker shock! Next week my hubby and I are making a road trip to my nearest dealer (2 hours one way) and I have several machines I want to try. It’s mind-boggling looking for a machine these days! Thanks for your reviews.
Colleen, did you end up getting this machine? it is one I am considering and wonder what your thoughts are so far? Thank you.
Lisa
I would like to know what type of projects you can use the laser pen for.
I have one of these beauties. I bought it a few years ago from a dealer who was selling it as a “demo” model. I got a great price for it and I LOVE it! I do a lot of sewing – from quilts, to dresses, to home decor, to handbags/wallets and pet beds. It performs beautifully and I wouldn’t give it up for anything.
