Working on the Juki HZL – G210 Excite
The Juki HZL – G210 Excite has an easy to follow threading guide that is so clear and precise that a beginner could master the process after just one or two attempts.
The toughest part about threading this machine is getting the hang of using the automatic needle threader… and that’s not difficult at all.
Winding the bobbin is just as easy, the bobbin spindle and winder are located beneath the lid on the right hand side. Graphic decals show exactly how the thread is to be guided to the bobbin to guarantee perfectly wound bobbins every single time.
The handy on board stitch selection guide is conveniently located inside the top lid. Each stitch is clearly identified by menu category.
To get the stitch you want, use the menu selection button on the right side of the LCD screen to determine which menu you want to choose from – utility, decorative or alphanumeric – and then make your selection by using the buttons on the left side beneath the screen to bring up your desired stitch number.
The default settings for stitch length and width will appear on the screen next to the stitch number. Use the buttons beneath the stitch length and width settings to customize your stitch settings to accommodate your specific needs.
Before sewing, however, it’s a good idea to stop here to determine if the correct presser foot is attached, whether you want the needle to stop in the up or down position, whether or not you want to set the machine to stop at a certain point if you are working with a decorative stitch and whether or not you want to save the stitch or stitch sequence in the memory.
The function buttons to control all of these features are located on the right side of the panel (white buttons).
The detailed seam guides on both sides of the needle plate make it almost impossible to place the fabric incorrectly and the stitch quality is wonderful.
For this review, I sampled several of the utility and decorative stitch options and each and every one of them came out perfectly.
I played around a little with the length and width variations as well. No matter which setting I used, the stitches were always well formed, clearly defined and sturdy.
Obviously, the technological advances and superior workmanship that Juki industrial sewing machines are known for has been carried over to the HZL – G210 Excite.
While sewing on this machine, I heard very little in terms of machine noise. The motor is almost whisper quiet. There is no vibration.

Juki HZL – G210 Excite Summay
If you ask me, the HZL – G210 Excite handles like a much larger, much heavier sewing machine. It’s almost impossible to believe that this machine weighs a little less than 10 pounds. The Juki HZL – G210 Excite is one of those sewing machines that anyone would be proud to have in their sewing room… not necessarily because of the brand name, but because of the way it performs.
There are few sewing machines on the market today that are a as user friendly and deliver such great quality stitches with virtually no noise or vibration. Because there are so many decisions to make when setting the machine up to sew, I hesitate to recommend it for use by very young children.
I do, however, believe it is an excellent choice for children in middle school and above. The user friendly stitch selection process is so user friendly, I believe a savvy middle schooler will get the hang of it after just one lesson. Home sewers at the intermediate skill level appreciate the quality and those who have been sewing for many years will love the way it handles.
I have reviewed sewing machines that perform as well as the Juki HZL – G210 Excite, but I don’t believe I’ve reviewed any that perform better; and with such an affordable MSRP, it’s difficult for me to advise anyone NOT to go out and buy one of these user friendly computerized sewing machines. The Juki HZL – G210 Excite is a computerized sewing machine designed and developed for home use, but it handles like an industrial machine.
Juki hasn’t been in the home sewing machine business for long, but I admire the way they maintain all of the key elements that made the Juki line of industrial machines so popular. With that in mind, I strongly urge anyone who thinks it’s time to add a new computerized sewing machine to their sewing room inventory to take a long hard look at the Juki HZL – G210 Excite before making a final decision as to which sewing machine to purchase.
My only reservation is the placement of the droop feed control. If you are sewing with the free arm, it is easy to access. If, however, you have the accessories case in place or are using the optional extension table, you must first remove them in order to use the drop feed function. I have stated this in previous reviews, but I must repeat myself here. There is no rhyme or reason to putting the drop feed in such an inconvenient location.
With the drop feed control placed where it is, there is no way to efficiently attach buttons, darn or perform other tasks which require freehand sewing. Juki dealers are not always easy to locate, but it’s well worth the time and effort to find an authorized Juki dealer near you. When you do, make sure you ask for a demonstration of the HZL – G210 Excite.

Dear Vernelle, your reviews are always very informative and well balanced ! Congratulations.
Please note that according to the Juki website, the Excite G210 weighs 9.5 kilos, equivalent to 20.9 pounds, so perhaps you would like to amend your review for this detail !
I actually have a question – I’m looking for a new machine to do basic home decor sewing, mostly slipcovers. I have an industrial machine which is perfect for sewing through the multiple layers especially on welted sections, but I want something that will do buttonholes, zigzag all my raw edges, and quickly sew the pieces together that I don’t need the industrial for. Why did you mark an X by canvas/twill fabric? I use a lot of cotton duck canvas for slipcovers. Would this machine not sew that? I’m not talking about super heavy sail canvas or something like that. I buy what they have at Hobby Lobby, JoAnn, etc.
Thanks!
Hello, Carol –
Thank you for visiting Sewing Insight.
I hesitate to recommend sewing heavy canvas or twill o the Juki Excite because the machine is so light, it may not be able to handle things like sail cloth or very heavy canvas without encountering some problems. I prefer to err or the side of caution rather than to give the go-ahead and then discover that it cannot perform certain tasks.
As for finding a machine that can do all that you want to do, I strongly recommend that you visit an independent authorized dealer that specializes solely in selling and servicing sewing machines rather than one of the large corporations that does not offer the same level of customer service or hands on training that you get from a small, independent dealer.
Tell the sales associate what you need and ask for a hands on demonstration of every machine that you are genuinely interested in purchasing before making your final decision.
I have the same question as that of Carol. I also do not agree that this machine is “light” as you mentioned. It weighs 21.6 lb according to Juki’s website:
https://www.jukihome.com/products/excite-hzl-g210.html
It weighs more than many so-called “heavy duty” sewing machines in the market, so I don’t see why it cannot handle canvas or twill fabrics. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you very much.
I can’t find this machine for sale any more, only the Juki Sewing Machine – HZL-G110 , is it essentially the same machine? I want something that will go through heavy fabrics, not just hem jeans, and also do all the fine work. Is the G110 the same as this? Thanks.
Hello, Kate –
Thank you for visiting Sewing Insight.
As far as I am able to determine, the two machines are, indeed, identical. In fact, they share the same instruction manual, which is written in four different languages. According to the Juki website, both the G210 and G110 are currently available for sale. Perhaps the difference in model numbers has something to do with the location where the machines are sold.
At any rate, if you cannot locate a G210, but have an opportunity to purchase a G110, you should be just fine.
Happy stitching.
IN g110 there is no automatic thread cutter.

I’m planning on having juki only wondering if it’s worth paying 100 euros about thread cutter, because that is the differens in price in estonia.
Hi I’m keen to know whether this model is good for quilting ? Thanks
Hello Angelina –
Thank you for visiting Sewing Insight.
The large work space and the ability to work with extra thick layers of fabric are indications that the Juki G210 Excite is capable of handling large projects like quilting. I hesitate to recommend it for extra large quilts that the projects you would normally produce on a frame, however.
I currently own a Juki HZL G210 and I absolutely LOVE it!! The best features for me are the auto thread trimmer, push button reverse and tie down, which you can do all in one step! This saves incredible time when finishing a seam. Only “con” that I can think of is this machine is incredibly heavy so you may want to get a lighter machine for sewing classes and leave this one at home. Weight is approx 21 lbs!! Sturdy, durable, quiet (for a powerful machine), love the “pink/black” color combo. Will operate with or without foot pedal by using Start/Stop button. I only do garment sewing so 900 spm is plenty fast for me! More stitches that I could ever use plus an alphabet. Can’t think of anything I need that this machine doesn’t have. Looking forward to a long relationship with my Juki!
I am glad you’re having success with your machine. I have had nothing but trauma with mine. Purchase from a studio in Maitland, Fl. They were not nice at all!
Wonder what problems you are having – I’m having a bobbin problem – they have put in three different bobbin casings already and it just shifted again on me so it’s back to the store again. Wondering if that is your problem too?
Since I wrote my original review I also had a bobbin case shift. Had to pay for a repair because per Juki USA there are no Juki repair shops in Houston that would honor my warranty even though the problem started at 6 weeks of ownership. Repairman couldn’t find the problem but returned the machine in working order. I’m nervous it will just start acting up again. When it works, it is wonderful.
I recommend to not purchase g210 or nothing by Juki. I have had two of the same machine in less than a year and now on my way to see if I can trade in for something that will work. Seller nor manufacturer were accommodating. I have wasted moneh I can’t afford thinking I had made an awesome purchase. By the way, I was told by manufacturer after the fact, you can’t sew more than three hours on this machine.
Dear Ms. Mills, I am so sorry to hear that you were having trouble with your Juki machine. I can understand your frustration. I had two Singer machines that drove me crazy and I ended up just GIVING them away. What’s more discouraging is the Seller was not helpful to you. My Juki G210 is still working fine and I guarantee I have sown longer that 3 hours at a time. I’m curious to know what brand you went to after the Juki “disaster”. I currently own a Juki, Babylock and Janome.
I have had this machine since it first showed up at the local quilt show. I sew on it constantly, 6-8 hours at a time. I have sewn multiple layers of duck cloth and canvas, marine vinyl, will no problems. The only time I have problems is when it needs cleaned. .
I am thinking of changing my sewing machine. I currently sew on a Husqvana Lily which is 16 years old and still going strong, but it struggles a bit with jeans hems and sewing multiple layers. I have seen the Juki HZL-G210 in my local shop and had a demo. I was very impressed with the Juki but wary of changing then finding I’ve made a mistake. Any advice/thought would be very welcome.
i absolutely ADORE my new Juki g210. I have been sewing for nearly 60 years and have worked on Singer and Brother machines and this is by far the best, easiest and most fun machine. I just completed a cover for my thrift store find ottoman. My Juki stitched through 2 layers of fabric then 8 layers without missing a beat. Love the overlock stitch…almost like having a serger built right in. The needle threader works every time and the thread cutter is such a wonderful convenience. It is quiet. I love the speed regulator so I don’t get too carried away on curves and can let my granddaughters work on it on the slower speeds. I was familiar with the Juki professional machines and this seems to be the best of professional and home sewing machine. I highly recommend thus machine!
Hi, I’m thinking of change my old machine and, among other things, I’d like sew with a double needle. Does that machine supports that? Thanks!
Hello, Fina –
Thank you for visiting Sewing Insight. The Juki HZL G210 is not capable of working with a twin needle. The machines in the Juki Exceed series, however, are capable of handling a twin needle. https://sewinginsight.com/reviews/janome-memory-craft-9900-review/
Happy stitching.
Initially I thought this machine couldn’t handle a twin needle, but I went to the shop that sold it to me and they gave me a gadget that fits over the bobbin winding pin and works beautifully.
I like your machines, how much does Juki HZL G210 go for? I mean the 2015 model.
I purchased my HZL 210 last night for just under $600 following a sewing boot camp at a local fabric store. As a Juki dealer, all machines in the class were that model and after only a couple hours I felt right at home with it as opposed to my Brother. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with That one ever since I purchased it several projects ago. I am an advanced beginner and look forward to a long relationship why my new machine.
I purchased the G210 last Feb for my 3 grandaughters (11,7,5). We’ve learned sewing together (thanks to Jenny of Missouri Star Quilts and Crafty Gemini). This Juki has been fantastic. The 11 yr old has made quilts, quilted table runners and quilted zipper pouches. The 7 yr old made aprons and stuffed dolls. the 5 yr old made pillow cases, dog collars, and pretend stuff. She can’t reach the peddle so the hand controls work great.
I can’t recommend the G210 highly enough. After 8 months of sewing, it’s met all expectations and more.
How wide is the work space on the Juki G210 Excite
What is the difference between Juki hzl g210 and g220?
Hello, I am a beginner quilter. I am wanting to purchase a new machine but I need it to be easy to use. I have read everything you said about the HZL-G210 Excite and it sounds like an almost perfect machine. I like that it tells me which presser foot to use as I have not learned near enough to even know why I would need different presser feet. I’m still very much a newbie, but I want to make quilts and rag quilts and puff quilts. I love patchwork quilts. My question is about a comparison between this sewing machine the G210 Excite and what I believe, certainly don’t know for certain, is what JUKI built next in line. The HZL-G220. How does it compare to the G210? Completely different? Not beginner friendly? I can’t find anyone that can give me a comparison of these two. I ask for a couple of reasons. It is,I think, a newer model of the same machine model. Maybe it has more features that make it even more user friendly. Maybe it’s easier to operate. I do know that I am having a hard time trying to find the G210 for sale that isn’t refurbished. While the G220 has been easy to find for sale. But if you believe that the G210 would be best for a beginner QUILTER then I will keep looking and look harder and drop looking for the G220. I so far like everything about the G210, but I just wanted your opinion. Also one review I read said the G220 was a great dressmaker machine but they didn’t say anything about it being great for quilting. I will never make clothes but I’m sure I might mend a tear or sew a button on.
