Multi-functional machines that sew, quilt and embroider have been on the market for quite a while now. However, very few of these machines are as user friendly and easy to operate as the Quattro 2 6700D from Brother.
When describing this machine, the people at Brother use the tag line “Creativity times Four”, and that’s exactly what came to mind when I reviewed this machine.
Brother Quattro 2 6700D Overview
The Brother Quattro 2 6700D is a high-end sewing and embroidery machine that offers a range of advanced features for the serious sewer and embroiderer. It features a large, color touchscreen display that allows for easy navigation and customization of embroidery designs, and a built-in camera that allows users to preview and position designs before stitching. My curiosity almost had the best of us when I saw the screen light up with the words “Creativity Times Four” followed by an image divided into four quadrants, each one with a graphic and a different word… Sew, Quilt, Embroider, Craft.
After standing there watching this animated display for a couple of minutes, I decided to sit down to see exactly what the Quattro 2 was all about.

Working on the Brother Quattro 2 6700D
As soon as I turned on the power switch, I knew the Quattro 2 was a different type of sewing machine.
The Home menu on the LCD screen gave us several options: Operation Guide, Sewing Guide and Pattern Explanation.
The various touch screen options can be accessed by using either the stylus which is conveniently located in a slot on the right side of the machine or by the simple light touch of a fingertip.
When I selected “Operation Guide”, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the entire owner’s manual is electronically loaded onto the Quattro 2.
As I scrolled through the guide, I clicked on the link labeled “Maintenance”, which took us to detailed written instructions for cleaning the race hook accompanied by an animated video which clearly demonstrates the process for those users who may be visual learners.
You can do literally everything with this touch pad, including adjust stitch length and width, snip thread and reverse stitches. These tasks can also be performed by touching buttons mounted on the machine head, giving the user additional options for how to perform routine tasks.
The touch screen is particularly useful for accessing stitch designs, sequence memory, and retrieving stored designs.
Choosing the right utility or decorative stitch or embroidery design is as easy as scrolling through the on screen options and following the directions that appear when a final selection is made.
However, if the occasion arises when the hundreds of embroidery designs are not sufficient, the pen tablet, which connects to the Brother Quattro 2 6700D via a USB cord, will allow the user to design their own embroidery designs and then bring them to life on the Quattro 2 using any colors they choose from the on board 300 color palate.
The basic steps for setting up the machine, such as threading and bobbin winding are as simple and uncomplicated as could possibly be. Start/stop button is extremely convenient, especially when performing embroidery or quilting tasks.
The Brother Quattro 2 6700D has a free arm for sewing those small items. However, I found the fact that it is possible to sew without removing the embroidery arm to be particularly refreshing.
Most other machines of this type require that the embroidery arm be used only for embroidery tasks.
In order to perform sewing or quilting tasks on those machines, it is necessary remove the embroidery arm and then replace it with a standard work table or use the free arm.

To conclude my review, the Brother Quattro 2 6700D is uncomplicated, but not for the home sewer who does not have a strong knowledge of basic sewing techniques and sewing machine operation.
With an MSRP of $9,999, this machine is not only affordable it is one of the most reasonably priced machines of its type. On the other hand, it is definitely not a machine for anyone who does not know what they are doing.
The Brother Quattro 2 6700D is far above the skill level of anyone who is new to sewing or who has limited experience with machine embroidery.
If someone who has done just a little bit of machine embroidery is in the market for a machine designed to help them perfect their embroidery skills, I suggest they take a look at the Brother Innov-is 1250. That machine is ideal for the home sewer who is adept at sewing machine operation and is ready to expand their abilities.
To sum it all up, I believe anyone who is ready to upgrade the inventory in their sewing room to include a machine that does absolutely everything should take a close look at the Brother Quattro 2 6700D.
This is one machine that does everything and does it very well. In addition, it is affordable, well designed and easy to maintain.

I purchased this machine, within the first month the F05 speed sensor light came on and shut down the machine. It went to the shop for 2 1/2 weeks. Came home and again the speed sensor sign came on and the machine shut down. It was replaced. New machine, the first time I used it it frayed the threads while embroidering, the threads broke up inside making it impossible to retrive the thread. I used the machine 5 more times. It continued to fray threads and not work properly. So now the new machine is headed for the shop. This machine was sold to me for $8,600. I have been told last week 4 other people have had the same problem in my area. This machine has left me feeling like I have been RIPPED OFF. I just want to leave this machine at the shop where I purchased it and get my money back and never return or see another Brother product. This machine is not worth the head ace you will get from using it. It is a night mare. It will spend more time in the repair shop than it does with you.

I review all late model sewing machines while they are still on display in the store. Therefore, when I review them, they are brand new out of the box and in perfect operating condition. During reviews, I do all I can to test them, but the true test of any sewing machine is how it performs in day-to-day situations when they are really put through their paces.
This is one of the reasons why reviews of older models are included on this site as well.
I, too, had the experience of purchasing a highly rated brand new sewing machine only to be disappointed when it didn’t perform up to expectation in a real life situation.
Your experience is a very valuable one. I urge everyone to take heed before making a final decision to purchase this or any sewing machine.
Unfortunately, buying a sewing machine is much like purchasing a car. Make sure you have a good warranty and return policy. Nearly all of them look great and perform well on the showroom floor; however, some machines … especially those with brand new technology, like the speed sensor in this case … need to get the bugs out before they can really do the jobs they are built to perform.

I left an earlier comment on the Brother Quartto 2 embroidery machine. I continued to use this machine after the tech. told me it would never give me anymore trouble. That was true for a few months. In March during the embroidery process the cutter stopped working. Off
to the shop it went in May I called the shop and decided I better speak with the Tech. myself. I found out all the parts in the bottom of the machine broke. He had to order those parts. When those parts came in he replaced them only to find the mother board went out on the machine he told the shop where it came from that it needed to be replaced. They don’t think so. I have spoken to Brother don’t know what they are going to do at this point. I am so very disappointed with the Brother Quartto 2.
You were lucky to get a new machine replacement………they gave me a “refurbished” machine to replace my lemon. I had so many problems. And now I’m having so many problems with the 2nd refurbished machine. The shop where I take for repairs asked if I wanted to buy a new machine…….I’ve only had it 3 years!!!! I’d sure like to get my money back and check other machines!!! (not brother)!!!!
I have a quatro 2 and personally it is a piece of junk. I had 2 baby lock sewing embroidery machines that were nothing but junk. Shortly after buying my Brother quatro 2 I discovered baby lock is made by Brother. No wonder they were all junk. Will never buy either machine again.

You should get just a needle and thread. Had never turned on a machine until I purchase my Quattro 2. Amazing piece of machinery. I would guess your problem is operator error.

I purchased this machine two months ago. This is my third Brother machine and I have enjoyed everyone of them. I upgraded to this machine for many of the new special features. I have done sewing repairs and embroidered more than 10 items, some quite large and complex. At this time I have not had any issues with my machine. A few times thread have broken, but I have found that to be the case with any machine I have used depending on the thread used for both top and bobbin. Also dependent on material type and thickness of design embroidery. I rate this machine very high and enjoy it every time I use it.
I have been looking at this machine to purchase. I have a Janome 350 at this time. I don’t have store close to me, the closest one is a 2 hour drive. They gave me a price, but after reading some comments on different forums, I think the price is too high. I hate the fact that prices on any machine are not listed on any websites in order to compare. It is kinda like shopping for a car..I just hate all that dealing with the prices, most of the time you don’t feel you got a good price. I do think this is the machine for me. Thanks for the review.
Your review convinced me to purchase the Quattro 2. It is an incredible machine but I do have to disagree with the notion that it is affordable. Guess it depends on the person’s budget! In spite of having to take out a loan to pay for the machine, I am thoroughly enjoying it. I embroidered all weekend and now want to figure out the quilting aspect of it next. Any tips?
I have had my quattro 2 for a couple of months. It is an absolutely wonderful machine. I have sewn 2 quilts embroidered some bibs, and am now working on Christmas ornaments for presents. It has performed beautifully. So glad I upgraded to the Quattro 2.
I have had my brother since march 2012. I love it. It has not been a problem at all. The store where I purchased my machine, let me know that it is sensitive to coats and clarks embroidery thread. I tried the thread before I asked them. They knew it was that thread right away. Try a different thread. It may work better for you.
Beautiful machine…got it for Christmas! I have already done lots of embroidery on it and it sews like a charm. One of the things I love about it is that it is very user friendly and has an excellent stitch quality. It is very quiet compared to other machine’s I’ve had. So many wonderful features that really are fun to work with, and learning them is simple because of the good instructions given on the help guide that is on the machine and the instruction manual also. The pen tablet that comes with this machine is a plus if you enjoy creating your own designs too. The feature of not having to change the embroidery table when you want to do regular sewing is great! I would highly recommend this machine if you are considering it as a choice.
I am actually embroiderying my first design on my new machine.
It is a 91,856 stitch design with 16 different colors. I am so excited and even though I had a few problems in the past (that were taken care of) I wouldn’t own anything but a Brother.
This is my 5th Brother embroidery machine in 12 years (I still have my very 1st. a Brother 180D).I keep trading up.
Brother and the owner of the store where I purchased my machines have always been very helpful, caring and understanding if I had an issue.
by the way, my 1st. design is a Photo Stitch design of Jesus.
I purchased my Quattro 2 6700D late last year. From day one I have had tension problems. I have always had to back off on the upper tension. I think there is too much tension set in the head. I have done identical sew outs and the samples from the 6700D show that the material is crumpled from the tension. The sample from my PC8500 show an almost flat sew out. To balance the tension, the bobbin case needs about 30 grams of pressure to pull thread (on the PC8500, it is less than 10 grams; on a Topaz 20, it is around 15 grams). I took it back to the dealer and he said the machine is fine. I wonder if anyone else has run into this.
I’ve had my Brother Quattro about 1 year. In that time it has been in the shop 4 times. I’ve had tension problems from the beginning. I set the tension at the beginning of s project and after a short while the tension changes. At times the tension does not change no matter what the setting. A few months, the motor went out and it took 5 weeks to be repaired. Lots of other issues. The service people are nice, but honestly they don’t have a clue. I have to turn off the machine after sewing a couple of designs otherwise, the machine goes a bit crazy sewing BIG loops on the top and tying knots underneath. It is not reliable even for piecing.
I have had my Quattro 2 for a year and a half now. It currently has about 7 million stitches on it. The cutter went out after a year and had to be replaced. The two year warranty covered it. Other than that, I have had no real trouble with it. Some of my older thread shredded but I don’t fault my machine which operates flawlessly and turns out exquisite embroidery designs. I couldn’t be more pleased with it. I now use Floriani thread exclusively which doesn’t leave residue in my machine and is strong and has a beautiful sheen
My machine cost about $7000, and I would not purchase this machine again. My needle threader had to be replaced after 2 months. A year later the power supply was replaced. I continue to have issues with the bobbin thread not picking up and my good Floriani thread is shredded when I use the machine. My machine will suddenly shut down and come back online. It loses it’s place in patterns from time to time. When my machine works correctly, I couldn’t be happier with it. But, it spends more time away being repaired than it should. I think I have a lemon.
My new Quattro 3 is 6 months old I have tension problems for some time now. When I was embroidering I got thread nesting. I also thought it sounded to loud. I cleaned it out and discovered the bobbin case was broken. Using the alternate bobbin case I tried again, now the machine tells me to check the upper thread every few minutes and the bobbin thread is a straight line. I am off to the dealer after trying everything the manual says. I do hope my dealer is easy to deal with.
Welcome to my world……….3 years with Quattro….one was replaced with refurbished machine……. I have the same problems you are describing……..I go back and forth for repairs. It’s never ending.
The problem with fraying while embroidering: I too had this problem. I found that as long as I used Maderia Embroidery threads, I had no longer had an issue. I had been using Janome and tried coats and clark, a friend uses some sulky without a problem.
From the reviews I’ve read on this page, it appears the majority have had problems with their Brother Quattro 2 6700D. My choice is between this machine and a Husqvarna Ruby Royale and any suggestions and advise is appreciated.
I have had my Quattro 2 6700 for about 2 1/2 years now. I bought it new and it currently has 14 million stitches. It is my 3rd embroidery machine. The only issues I have experienced with it are either user error or having a poor tech. No major issues whatsoever with this machine and I could not be more pleased. I have used the following threads (Sulky – tends to require more cleaning), Robison Anton rayon (breaks easily), Madeira rayon (no problems) and Floriani (which I now use almost exclusively). The machine has features that allow me to adjust tensions in special situations – not to mention the bobbin that can be adjusted as well. If I experience shredding, it is usually because I have not cleaned properly or I need to perform an adjustment or replace the needle. It does beautiful work and is extremely user friendly; so much so that I have not felt the need to upgrade. Does everything I need and way more.
My Quattro 2. 6700 embroidery sewing machine stops sewing after about 16 stitches and tells my to check the upper thread witch is threaded correctly. I have cleaned the shuttle area of any fluff, but still stops during embroidery and straight sewing, hope you can help. Judy

When was the last time your Quattro was serviced by an authorized sewing machine repair professional? Sometimes the attention of a certified professional could solve all our problems.
Check your bobbin case and also make sure there is no thread in the race. Sometimes you can’t really even see it on the bobbin case but you can feel the rough spot. This causes your thread to shred and it gets caught in the race. I’ve had this problem twice. You can order new bobbin cases online for half of what the brother dealer charges. Since they just drop in you can replace it yourself.
The brother Quattro Innovis 6700 D is a total lemon..an expensive disaster it has been in the shop more than it has been in my home… When it works which is very seldom and sporadic…it does a great job and I was enthralled with the big hoop…but it cannot hold a candle to any of my Janome’s which embroider on and on with no repairs…Brother is a big huge disappointment and I will never buy another one
I purchased my 6700d used and I am quite pleased with my upgrade. As mentioned above, certain thread brands work better than others. Bobbin thread matters too. I have the best results with the Brother bobbin thread (made by Ozeki in Japan). Sulky bobbin thread seems to give decent results.
One thing I haven’t seen mentioned above is needle choice. I have found this machine to be fairly picky about what needle I am using. Be sure that you are using an embroidery needle of the correct size. A metallics needle or top-stitching needle would be ok in a pinch too. They all have larger eyes to accommodate the heavier embroidery thread. Worn out needles can cause problems too. A fresh needle can solve a lot of problems.
I purchased this machine used in 2012 – it was a year old with minimal use. I take it in yearly for service and have had few problems with it. Last week it seized and would not sew, Prior to that it was making a high pitched whine which shocked me because I had never experienced that before. The service tech at the sewing center where I bought the machine said it needed oiled and seemed displeased that I had not brought it in sooner for routine maintenance. Lesson learned. Other than that I have had very few issues with the machine and love all of the features it offers. Hopefully, if I keep up the maintenance it will last me a long time.
A friend created a collage for me to stitch out. It had a picture, a name, and verse. My machine won’t even show it. What could be the problem, too many thread changes, too many stitches? Is there something can do to use theses designs?
I’ve had my machine for 3 years and couldn’t be happier. Yes I’ve had to take it in a couple times for things but given how much this machine can do and all that is involved in it, I’m extremely impressed. I love the way it sews and embroiders. It does work better if you don’t use the Brother thread. It tends to shred. I’ve been using Isacord and have no problems with it as long as I keep the machine clean and the needle changed. It must be taken care of and maintained. If I had to go buy a new machine tomorrow I’d buy the same thing again.
I read these comments with great interest. I have the 6700d, purchased in 2012, and rarely had problems with it that weren’t operator error. The biggest problem was with the bobbin thread wadding up in the machine. The first question the repair shop asked me was what type of bobbin thread I was using. I had purchased a bulk spool of inexpensive, non-brand name bobbin thread. He showed me the difference between cheap thread and brand name thread using a magnifying glass. The difference was obvious. I tossed the cheap stuff and got the good thread. No problems since then. I love this machine and all it can do. Funny how people are quick to criticize, but say nothing when things are good.
I have had my Brother Quattro 2 for two years and love it especially the wonderful needle threader that just makes changing thread and threading the needle so easy. I also like the hoops for using minimal fabric and stablizer. I have had a few issues with the tension being two tight, I usually back off the tension to 3 instead of 4 when embroidering. I think you need a fair bit of experience with top of the line sewing and embroidery machines to know what to do when the machines start to break thread or run rough. I clean out the top thread discs with old credit card for thread breakages and remove the bobbin and bobbin holder and give a good wipe clean and blow out when machine is running rough. This brings my machine back to running great. I am not afraid to change either top or bottom tensions on any embroidery or sewing machines I own to get them sewing well.
My 6000D has been nothing but a lemon since I’ve had it. After numerous trips to the dealer for repairs, replacing the complete bottom half it still doesn’t work. It is a very expensive decoration as it just sits there because it doesn’t embroider properly. I feel for the money I spent on it there shouldn’t be issues. Currently saving my money to get a different brand. Very disappointed with this purchase.
I have owned my Quattro 2 for the past 4 years and had no trouble at all with her. I am surprised that every time I sit down to use her I still get that excited feeling, I just love her. I am sorry for those who have had problems with their machines, but I think that just like Laptops, of the same brand, some you want to throw out the window, but most will live forever. I get her serviced yearly, I love the embroidery designs she makes, I love how easy Brother made this machine to learn how to use her, as this is the first Embroidery Machine I have ever owned, and I am so glad to have chosen this machine. I am self taught and have only learnt, by my mistakes.
Is there an update/upgrade that will allow the Innovis 6700-D, Quattro 2 to change the way it does reverse stitching. When I hold down the reverse button it only takes about 3 stitches then it stops and cuts the thread. I noticed on a youtube tutorial that the quattro 3 will sew in reverse as long as you press the reverse sewing button.

My tablet I can drawthepicture and it goes to the emb machine. I can transfer the design to embroidery data but 1 cannot get it to stitch design out and 2 cannot save it to a USB stick help! What am doing or not doing..?? Thanks Betty P
