I am trying to help my 2 granddaughters not be turned off sewing by our Pfaff experience and wanted to get them machines to try. I saw your review of the Singer Pixie and it looks like something they would try. They are both very handy but are very young – 5 and 6. Is it worth it to get the Pixie and then move up to the 1725 or should I just get the 1725 to begin with? I learned at 5 with my grandmother’s treadle machine which was hard and almost too hard. My grandmother had to run the treadle for me till my legs grew long enough! ha! a very good memory! But I don’t want to make it be an impossible thing for them to learn. They can share of course but sometimes it is nice to have your own. They both want to sew when their mother is sewing. Thank you again for letting me sound off and for all this excellent information.

I’m a 56 year old male. I started last year with a Singer clasic. Its been knocked off my TV table many times. Like a Timex, it takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. I like it for less than a hundred dollars.
I’m interested in your recommendation for a beginner with a background in electronics and all things geeky on a home embroidery machine. I’m primarily interested in making shirts, hats and jackets with logos on them.

Though not completely ignorant, I am quite novice. Recently having visited my local Quality Sewing & Vacuum retailer to ask a specific question about the Singer heavy duty 44 series, the very nice but obviously commissioned sales lady dismissed out of hand the very idea of purchasing any singer and began extolling the beautiful and fully computerized Brother quilting/sewing machine for $5000! When I balked at what I consider to be an extremely high price to pay for a machine I’ll be using for a hobby and usually spend that much on a used car, she suggested the mechanical $800 Baby Lock. While we had at least RE-entered the atmosphere it was still WAY more than I was interested in spending. She had a used machine someone had traded in and they had serviced but I had found the same model for a lot less elsewhere. Since according to her Singers aren’t what they once were and would be a waste to buy, I never got my question answered. Doing my own homework I’ve decided to get one anyway. I understand your point about buying from a sewing retailer specialist authorized seller but being sales/commission based service it would be easy to wind up with something much more than I need.
Touché! I am with you all the way! I have a basic machine and love it. I don’t need to read a Manual every time I want to use it. It makes my hobby very relaxing and enjoyable. Just wish I had more free time!
Would really like Singer stylist 7258 as its best for learning purpose. It comes with almost 100 stitches and also has electronic foot pedal.The speed of the machine is also adjustable.

your post was really great. if we really seeks for some incredible job we must have the computerized sewing machine for the better work and better accuracy than the mechanical one. but we must have to keep mind our budget. would you recommend some best machine?
